Admission Requirements
Oshio College of Acupuncture & Herbology accepts applications from all persons who are 19 years old or over and have completed a high school education or equivalent. OCAH seeks students who show the potential to become caring, dedicated and skilled practitioners of Traditional Oriental Medicine, and who can demonstrate the maturity and preparation necessary to undertake the challenges of the program. Foreign students are required to be proficient in written and spoken English. For students planning to be licensed by the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists (CTCMA) in BC, two (2) years of liberal arts and sciences (comprised of not less than 60 credits) in an accredited college or chartered/approved university acceptable to the CTCMA registration committee will be required to write the registration examinations. Hours of Instruction
Full-time students attend twenty or more hours of classes per week, which includes clinical training and study review. In total, approx. 1,965 hours will be offered for the Acupuncture program (3 academic years), approx. 2,685 hours for the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) program (4 academic years), and3,420 hours for the Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine Program (5 academic years).
Academic Year
We enroll students three times a year: in January, May and September. One academic year is 30 weeks. It usually starts on the first week of each month. New students are urged to register as early as possible. Late registration is accepted by special approval of the Principal, depending on the space available. There is a two-week Christmas break and a one-week clinical assessment week in February.Enrollment for January and May classes is available.Students enrolled full-time (including summer classes) may be able to finish the 5 year academic program within 4 calendar years or the 4 year academic program within 3 calendar years.Example: Full-time student starting in January: 1st year: January to August 2nd year: September to April 3rd year: May to December 4th year: January to August 5th year: September to AprilExample: Full- time student starting in May: 1st year: May to December 2nd year: January to August 3rd year: September to April 4th year: May to December 5th year: January to AugustDetailed schedules will be mailed to successful applicants.
Tuition Fees
Tuition is $7,700 per academic year. If you are a part-time student, tuition for one classroom instruction credit is $205, and for one clinical practice credit is $300. All Diploma Programs are approximately 22 instructional hours per week for 30 weeks per an academic year. A credit hour is given for every 15 hours of classroom instruction, or for 30 hours of supervised clinical practice.
Foreign Students
Foreign student tuition is the same as for local residents.
Book and Supply Cost
Students should make an allowance for approximately $500 per academic year in book costs and workshops as well asthe CTCMA student registration fees, which are not included in the tuition fee.
Application for Admission
Interested applicants should fill out the application form for admission and send it to the College for consideration. A certificate of admission will be mailed to the accepted applicant as soon as possible. All applications must be accompanied by a non-refundable application processing deposit of $250, which is not credited to the tuition. For International students, the application/registration fee is $500.
Evaluation of Academic Achievements
Each student must attend classes regularly with a minimum of 80% attendance required in order to write the final examination for a given course. Students must achieve a minimum of a 60% grade in order to pass and also achieve a minimum of 70% in the comprehensive graduation examination in order to graduate from the College.
Transfer of Credits
Transfer of credits from another recognized school of TCM may be accepted, but the number of transferred credits of one academic year should not exceed the number of credits (hours) normally earned by a student at the College in one academic year. There will be an application/registration fee charged to all transfer students. This fee is $250 for Canadian residents, and $500 for International students. The above rules and regulations are subject to review from time to time in order to maintain and upgrade the standards of Oshio College.

In order to maintain a high standard of education in our program, we have established policies that will ensure the best possible care for our patients and preparation of our graduates. It is your responsibility to read and be familiar with these policies. Ongoing monitoring will occur to ensure the standards are met and the policies will be enforced.
