Traditional Chinese medicine has been practiced, in one way or another, for over 5,000 years. While, for the most part, its practice was left to a few experts, knowledge of this powerful form of treatment has grown in leaps and bounds. For that purpose, we are proud to welcome you to Victoria’s oldest and most well established college of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Oshio College of Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine.

Here at Oshio College, we have dedicated ourselves to providing high quality education to our students. Our mission is to achieve a higher standard of education and professionalism in the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Such aspirations we hope to achieve by using the resources we have to prepare and educate our students to the best of our knowledge. And where the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine is vast, we have made it our goal to give our students as much access as they can in order for them to fully comprehend the practice.

So far, the college has done well, and besides its designation as the most well established college in Victoria, we have been accredited by the Private Career Training Institutions Agency (since 2001), and are also recognized in British Columbia and other provinces as an “eligible institution” under the Canadian Student Loans Act. All these have taken hard work, and on our part, we plan on exceeding these expectations to be recognized by institutions such as the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of British Columbia Provincial Licensing Board (CTCMA) in order to graduate the most highly skilled and competent practitioners of Traditional Oriental Medicine.

During the course of their studies, students are taught the fundamentals of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and how they can best use this knowledge to treat modern diseases. With Traditional Chinese Medicine, a holistic approach is taken. The whole body is a series of interactive systems, with each system reliant on the other for survival. It is through such knowledge that our students get to appreciate the effectiveness of treatment methods such as acupuncture, where the goal is to get the body’s qi back in balance.

When students walk into our buildings to embark on their course, they are guaranteed of nothing but the best standards of learning. At present, our students run from first through to fifth year, with all classes running concurrently. The institution has three intakes in a year: January, May, and September. At the end of their courses, the college wishes to produce qualified students that can work in public clinical services that utilize acupuncture and herbal medicine. More to that, the college also wishes to graduate Doctors of Traditional Chinese Medicine with its five year program, Registered Acupuncturists with its three year program, and Registered TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) Practitioners with its four year program.
